Bobby Campbell has passed away at the age of 60, all at the fans and members of Wigan Athletic Supporters Club wish his family the deepest condolences.

Back at Springfield Park, the Latics Legend was loved by the players and the fans, he would often come in to the Supporters Club after the game for a few pints and a cig.

He wasn’t bothered in the slightest about talking about the game with fans, on the contrary he sought it and above all enjoyed it, though his accent always made it hard to keep up.

He was always available if we needed a Santa for the kids Christmas Party, and he was always the life and sole of the party.

Bobby Campbell was one of the first past players on the list when The Supporters Club Annual Dinner is arranged. The other player’s that we would ask, always enquired whether he was coming and they jumped in if he was to be there.

The most recent was in March when he came over to help us celebrate Alex Cribley’s career. He was as funny as ever and always had stories to tell about his time at Wigan.

Bobby Campbell Wigan AthleticHe was a players that took no prisoners and more to the point he knew where the goal was. He was a maverick a times but still managed to play and get on the score sheet no matter what he was doing the night before.

He was a one off and I am sure you will all have your memories of him – A great man, a great player and a now a great loss to football and Wigan Athletic fans
