Yes the close season seems to be very, very long, but we are a third of the way thorough and the waiting will be over very quickly.
What has happened so far….?
Well for a starter for 10, we have a New Manager. Paul Cook has joined us from Portsmouth and we mentioned last week, we wish him all the best. Paul comes with a pretty impressive record, is a past player and plays the way we have done over the past decade or so.
Paul has already added New Players, in the form of Cheyenne Dunkley. Chey turned down a three contract with his old club Oxford United, to agree terms with us. Perkins had agreed a new deal and several player that ended last season will be staying to help us make an immediate return to the Championship.
Moving to the Club, we have also got a New Pitch, the turf was brought up about three weeks ago and the new grass has rooted and seems to have taken very well.
After years of the Club website ‘hanging’ due to the excessive advertising, there is now a new sleek design that is easy on the eye and easier to navigate round.
The Latics2 Amsterdam team, made up of Wigan Athletic fans, have complete their ride to Amsterdam raising around £45,000 in the process. This is the third year they have rode it, adding more fans every year, well done guys. The Supporters Club had them as their charity Partner for this season an because of your donations, over £750 has been raised by you the members, Thanks You.
What is going to happen….?
I have no doubt that after the signing of Chey there will more movement into and out of the Club, the Gaffer will be on the lookout on for more players. Christian Walton and Ashley Smith-Brown are just two of the names in the frame, but we have a few more weeks of speculation yet.
So far no news has emerged regarding Intersport and whether they are to renew the shirt sponsorship deal, which means we could be looking for a New kit sponsor?
If they don’t renew we could look at a long term deal with an online casino company featuring live roulette and large variety of games. Mansion that has been main sponsors for Crystal Palace and Bournemouth for the past two years. They also sponsored Tottenham from 2006 and Manchester City in 2011.
We are of course taking renewals and applications for Wigan Athletic Supporters Club Memberships in the 2017-18 season. Please see our Members Applications Page on the website. The Fixtures are out on the 21st June and our first Pre season friendly is on July 18th at Southport, the new season starts on 5th August 2017.
