A new organisation ‘LATICS UNITED’ has sent a call out to all Latics fans across all Wigan Athletic websites to enlist support a very worthy charitable cause.

THE CAUSE: Raise funds to cover the cost of a specialist wheelchair for a severely disabled Latics fan

THE EVENT: The inaugural ‘First Avenue’ Soul Night taking place at Whelley Ex-Servicemen’s Club, Vauxhall Road, Scholes, Friday 22nd October 2010, 7.30pm till late.

The Anthony Ramsdale Appeal Fund

Long standing Latics fan and creator of the highly respected Ye Olde Tree & crown website (www.yeoldetreeandcrown.co.uk) Bernard Ramsdale has a son Anthony who was involved in a near fatal motor accident in 2007. He was in a coma for quite a while, received permanent brain damage and is now situated in a specialist centre in North Wales where he can receive the 24 hour care he needs.

Anthony’s rehabilitation is now being hindered due to the family being told that they must find up to £4,000 for a specially designed armchair. As a community, all of the major Wigan Athletic groups are coming together to help to raise the money to pay for the new chair.

A spokesperson for Latics United explained: ‘Bernard and his family are Wigan Athletic to the core and well known to many Latics fans. It seems ridiculous that they should have to pay for this armchair and we thought we could use our combined strength across all the Latics community to raise the money to pay for it.’

‘We all have our different views on the football club and Premier League football but we coined the phrase ‘Latics United’ with a view to uniting all fans towards a common cause and giving something back to one of our own. We’re starting off with a soul event in a few weeks and we’ll keep going from there until we reach our target for Anthony’
