Wigan Athletic Supporters Club Update – Friday 31st July 2020

As we await news from today’s appeal, WASC would like to bring supporters up to date with the Let’s Hang On appeal and other events that we have been involved with over recent weeks.

The funds raised to date have made a huge contribution to ensuring that our Football Club remains a positive going concern.

On Wednesday this week, 29th July, representatives from WASC met with the administrators. Following these discussions, the committee unanimously agreed that the funds raised by the supporters should be used to pay the wages of the vital staff who are working to keep the Football Club running. These wages included the administrative team, retail staff, ground staff, HR, media and finance.

We would also like to thank the staff at the club, who are continuing to work tirelessly to secure the future of Wigan Athletic.

On Thursday this week, 30th July, WASC hosted our first Virtual Quiz Night, presented by the fantastic Kevin Day. A huge thank you goes out to everyone who joined us. It was great to see so many supporters and players, both past and present, getting involved.

We have also received communication from the EFL, to confirm that they will be issuing a statement early next week (commencing 3rd August) in response to the concerns we have raised to them about the circumstances surrounding Wigan Athletic.

Crucially we are now working to promote our Parliamentary petition, which asks all supporters from across the country to unite and demand changes to the governance of Football Clubs. We have written to every Supporters Club in the EFL and Premier League to ask for their support in promoting the petition. We would also like to thank the Football Supporters Association who have been working to drive these changes for several years. They have been promoting our petition via their member clubs and we hope that getting to 100,000 signatures will see our collective voices heard.

Since the beginning of the campaign so many people have helped our cause and we cannot say thank you enough for your efforts. Now we ask for your continued support and fundraising, as we carry on our work to support the Football Club and to raise awareness of our Parliamentary petition.

By working together we are determined to ensure that we can make a change in football for the future.
