It really amazes me how far Wigan Athletic reach around the world these days, as 12 players are called up for the various games around the world over the next ten days and will be watched by a global audience totalling nearly a billion people.

No less than eleven Latics players have been called up for the various Internationals over the next week or so, an amazing statistic for what is supposedly an ‘unpopular and small’ Club.

Fraser Fyvie, Maynor Figueroa, James McCarthy, Ali Al Habsi, James McArthur, Gary Caldwell, Shaun Maloney, Arouna Kone, Filip Orsula and Jean Beausejour will at last earn his first cap for Chile.

Ryo Miyachi is on loan from Arsenal, but we will claim this one as well. This loan was finalised last August and last year Arsenal signed with Betsson which is owned by Bwin. Good thing the merger talks between Bwin and another betting conpany did not push through and now the same company (bwin) is currently sponsoring 3 teams in the league. The Latics current sponsor is 12BET but who knows, maybe one of these days bwin might be knocking on their doors.

With 20 Caps up for grabs (16 senior international and four Under 21 international caps) over the next ten days, 11 of the Wigan Athletic squad have been called up to their national sides to compete for them.

Filip Orsula is playing on Thursday and Monday night in the Slovakia Under 21s squad to face the Netherlands in the Under 21 European Championship play-off final.

Fraser Fyvie will also be involved in Under 21 action with the chance to make his debut as Scotland take on the United States, whilst James McArthur returns to the Senior Scotland squad to join Gary Caldwell and Shaun Maloney when they take on Wales this Friday in a crunch game and then go to Belgium on Tuesday .

Maynor Figueroa will travel with Honduras to Panama, then host Canada next Tuesday. James McCarthy will play for the Republic of Ireland as they take on Germany in Dublin before taking the trip to the Faroe Islands next week.

Jean Beausejour has his first call-up for Chile playing Ecuador away and Argentina at home. Arouna Kone joins up with the Ivory Coast squad as they face Senegal in the African Cup of Nations.

Ali Al Habsi will play for Oman in Group B of the Asian zone of World Cup qualifiers when they play Jordan next week. Japan will not be in qualifying action this month but, Ryo Miyachi has been called up to the national squad as they face France and Brazil.
