Wigan Athletic Supporting #RAINBOWLACES CAMPAIGN

AS PART OF OUR CONTINUED COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION, WIGAN ATHLETIC IS SUPPORTING THE RAINBOW LACES CAMPAIGN THIS WEEKEND.

  • Latics join the football community in supporting the Rainbow Laces campaign – because football is for everyone.
  • Match against Accrington Stanley dedicated to supporting the #RainbowLaces campaign
  • Latics have sponsored and supported Wigan Pride since the event launched in 2015 and look forward to doing so once again next year.

This week, Wigan Athletic has joined the rest of the football community in supporting the #RainbowLaces campaign.

As part of our continued commitment to diversity and inclusion, Wigan Athletic will be dedicating Saturday’s fixture with Accrington Stanley to the campaign, reinforcing the strong message of zero tolerance to discrimination of any form, whether that is on the pitch, in the stands or online.

In support of the LGBTQ+ community, match officials will use rainbow-coloured substitution boards, whilst (as pictured) corner flags will be rainbow-coloured and Latics’ captain will wear a rainbow-coloured armband. Rainbow laces will also be available for all players and staff.

Wigan Athletic Community Trust staff have built a strong relationship with Stonewall – the largest LGBTQ+ rights organisation in the UK – and the Premier League to provide training to its staff about how to make sessions more inclusive to LGBTQ+ young people.
