How you cast your votes

Wigan Athletic Supporters Club would like to thank all fans and friends of Wigan Athletic who took the time to complete our consultation survey regarding the use of the monies raised in the first “Save Wigan Athletic” Crowdfunder 2020. Hundreds of responses were received, and we are pleased to announce the three ‘Supporters Projects’ that received the most of your votes:

1) Supporting older people in Wigan (Selected by 70% of voters)

The most popular choice was for older people in Wigan to be supported through a project targeted at reducing social isolation. This initiative was piloted by Wigan Athletic Community Trust during the Covid pandemic and has been a huge success. As such, the first aim of the Supporters Project will be to help enhance this programme so that even more older people in Wigan can be cared for.

2) Supporting local grassroots football (Selected by 65% of voters)

As a result of your votes, the second part of the Supporters Project will be to provide small grants to local grassroots football clubs in Wigan. Further details about how these grants can be applied for will be announced in due course.

3) Working with young people in Wigan, aged 14-19 (Selected by 65% of voters)

Following the Covid pandemic, the young people of Wigan – particularly those of Secondary School age – face a challenging time as they work to secure qualifications, and take their next steps in further education or apprenticeships. The Supporters Project will support the most vulnerable and disadvantaged young people in Wigan to raise their aspirations and provide opportunities for them to gain qualifications and work-related experience. This project will also be supported by Wigan Athletic and sponsors of the football club.

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who donated, and everyone who offered their views in the consultation. Working together with Wigan Athletic and Wigan Athletic Community Trust, we will ensure that your donations will make a real difference in YOUR community – all in the name of YOUR football club.
