Update for Supporters – 5 Jan 2021
Supporters Club News
WASC is delighted to see that the takeover has officially been completed.
This has been an unprecedented season for Wigan Athletic and the Wigan Athletic Supporters Club. Firstly with us being put in to administration, but also through the devastating restrictions the COVID19 pandemic landed on us.
This morning we were made aware that discussions with the Spanish bidders regarding their proposed takeover of the club have failed. The statement from the administrators can be found here. We share the fans’ anger and frustration at this news, and the timing of the decision.
The Supporters Club have already made contact with the administrators and the EFL. Most importantly we have immediately begun work to help invite and progress alternative bids, in addition to progressing the supporters’ solution.
We have also strongly requested that the administrators refuse any requests for exclusivity from future bidders, in order to allow for multiple bids to be proposed to the EFL. We have been assured by the EFL that this is possible, and we will continue to discuss this with the administrators.
We understand and share the concerns of all Latics supporters. But we will continue to work with all parties on a daily basis to secure the future of Wigan Athletic, and we will provide further updates regarding next steps as soon as possible.
