Membership Applications and renewals open

On Saturday, Wigan Athletic Supporters Club opened membership applications and renewals for the upcoming season. The uptake has been phenomenal, with memberships breaking all records in the first 24 hours.

The Supporters Club has always given that extra sense of belonging for fans of Wigan Athletic. In the past 35 years or so, the Supporters Club has provided a place for its members to meet up for a drink and a chat, run coaches so fans can safely travel to away games as well as supporting local charities and hosting special events for the fans.

Back in the 80s it started as an informal group that met up in the club at Springfield Park and occasionally travelled together to away games. But the numbers started to grow very quickly and so Joe Mills, Mick Wimsey, Chris Coffey, Roy Highton (Spike) and Alan Liptrot set up the Official Wigan Athletic Supporters Club that we now know and is recognised and backed by the Football Club.

Over the years we have seen all sorts of situations at our beautiful club, from bucket collections at Springfield Park to pay the players wages in the 90s, to putting on an unprecedent number of coaches to get our fans down to Wembley to watch our team win the FA Cup.

Highs and lows, every club has them, but administration is by far the hardest one to take and that is why we are doing everything in our power and beyond to help keep the Football Club going so that we can hopefully move forward with new owners to create the next chapter of our journey.

This is our priority. But fans can rest assured that we are working around the clock to make sure that every avenue is explored to ensure that we have a Football Club at the end of all this.

When we are able to get back to watching football, our bar serves food, drinks (alcoholic and non alcoholic) and has Sky Sports (so if there is an early match it will generally be shown); members can book for away travel, renew or apply for membership and details of any Supporters Club Events are also available there. You can apply by clicking here.

Special offers exclusive to the Supporters Club Membership are put on for food and drink at certain games throughout the season, there are also exclusive member only competitions and member upgrades for open competitions/raffles.

In the 19/20 season the average saving for a member having two drinks a game was £34.60 compared to a non-member. Those having a pie too saved over £60 through the season. Not bad for a £6 membership.

Wigan Athletic Supporters Club is the voice of Wigan Athletic fans, for many years we have took complaints, issues and praise to the football club. Recently we have done all we can to help keep the club running whilst in administration.
